Churches Count On Nature

Our churchyards are so rich in nature... but do we really know just what wildlife they harbour? Well a new national nature project is looking to find some answers.

The Churches Count on Nature Project will run from 5 to 13 June, and has been organised by Caring for God’s Acre, A Rocha UK, and the Church of England.

A citizen science project, it will see communities and visitors recording the birds, mammals, insects, plants and fungi in their local churchyard. The data will then be collated on the National Biodiversity Network.

Alongside the week, the National Environment Programme are hosting a series of webinars. Topics include outdoor worship, managing trees and grasslands and an introduction to biological recording.
