Music for a Summer Evening in Hawkshead - next concert Tuesday 23rd July 7:30 pm: Rombalds Recorders

The popular event Music for a Summer Evening returns to Hawkshead Parish Church in June and July with a varied programme of 11 concerts and recitals. The programme, which has been running at the 12th Century Church for almost 60 years, provides an entertaining series of musical concerts for Cumbria residents and summer visitors to the area.

Tuesday 23rd July 7:30 pm: Rombalds Recorders
This wonderful Recorder orchestra of 26 musicians will delight you with their music played on a wide
range of recorders, some 5 feet or more tall. The society came together in 2016 to rehearse and perform
recorder music dating from the Renaissance period to the present day.

Tuesday 30th July: Lake District Summer Music – 2 concerts
2.00pm: Resident Student String Quartets performing extracts from Beethoven’s Op.18
7:30pm: Alkyona String Quartet & Jess Dandy (contralto)
Please note that these two concerts are ticketed. For tickets and more information visit or phone 015392 66200

This year in addition to returning favourites such as pianist Duncan Glenday, and flautist, David Edmonds, the programme welcomes ‘Clerical Errors’ - where Musical Ministers and Vocal Vicars will perform an eclectic repertoire of classical, folk and contemporary music.

Also in the programme for the first time will be the Herdwyck Consort. Founded in 2010, the consort has quickly established a reputation for its emotive and exciting performances.  It has a wide-ranging repertoire but specialises in music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods.

Other returning acts are Manchester Chorale - one of the best known names in the Sainsbury's Choir of the Year Competition with regular televised appearances in the final stages of the competition. The programme will also feature Encore Opera, South Lakes Acappella, and newcomers, Rombalds Recorders and Burneside Brass Band.

The free concerts are mostly on Tuesday evenings over the Summer at Hawkshead Parish Church.  The full programme is attached below.
